Practice Management

Since it opened its doors nearly 10 years ago, Warsaw, Ind.-based OrthoPediatrics has been dedicated to furthering pediatric orthopedics and developing products in this service line, according to medGadget.

Here are six key notes on OrthoPediatrics:

1. The company has developed products for spinal correction, long bone trauma and deformity as well as ACL reconstruction since 2006.

2. A remodeled car dealership houses OrthoPediatrics' offices in Warsaw. Inside the office, a photo of the Chief Medical Officer, Peter Armstrong, MD, with one of his patients, adorns the wall. Dr. Armstrong performed surgery on the patient to give him hands, as he was born without arms and two clubbed feet. The picture of the patient's transformation speaks to OrthoPediatrics' overall mission of improving the lives of their young patients.

3. OrthoPediatrics collaborates with almost 3,000 orthopedic surgeons around the globe to help surgeons meet their clinical needs for pediatric patients. OrthoPediatrics obtained exclusive rights to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's Hamann-Todd Human Osteological Collection to help with research and design for the company's products. The collection is the world's largest academic repository of human bone.

4. Over the past 10 years, the company has worked to create innovative products that surpass their existing devices' advantages. The company's newer products have lower profiles, such as their new ACL reconstruction system that surgeons can use on young patients.

5. OrthoPediatrics is working on devising products for osteogenesis imperfecta. Currently, the company is in the process of developing an implant that would give patients with this genetic disorder long-term tibia support, while also allowing the tibia to expand by itself while the leg grows.

6. OrthoPediatrics works with pediatric surgical centers around the globe and has put on more than 240 workshops within the last year at different hospitals. The firm also sponsors CME courses.
