In recent weeks, WikiLeaks got access to an email showing parts of a speech that Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton made to medical companies and trade groups in 2014, which showed the candidate taking a more "conciliatory" tone, according to Kaiser Health News.

Here are four things to know:

1. In a 2014 speech to Advanced Medical Technology Association, Ms. Clinton said she understood the important role the company plays in the healthcare industry, and evaded a question probing her about a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices intended to fund that ACA. Following fierce industry lobbying, the tax was suspended until 2017.

2. A Clinton campaign spokesperson said Ms. Clinton has continually worked to make pharmaceutical companies accountable and asked for them to place patients above profits. The hacked emails show Ms. Clinton avoiding questions about policies companies may contest while also articulating her understanding of the vital role these companies play in healthcare, KHN reports.

3. Moving forward in her campaign, Ms. Clinton has taken a stand against the pharmaceutical industry. Her website called out Pfizer and Allergan during talks of a proposed merger for Pfizer moving its headquarters to Ireland, thereby "eroding the U.S. tax base."

4. The pharmaceutical and health product industry has provided Ms. Clinton nearly $11.6 million during her campaign and other groups supporting the candidate. Donald Trump also has accepted contributions from the healthcare industry, with health professionals providing the Republican candidate $1.5 million in contributions.
