5 strategies the Obama administration is using to get more Millennials on health insurance exchanges

Practice Management

The Obama administration has big plans to convince Millennials to enter the health insurance exchanges, and the ACA may depend on its success.

Here are the tactics they'll use, according to the Wall Street Journal:

1. Engage with online platforms including Twitch, a video platform and community for videogame players that has 45 million users monthly. The administration has entered into paid partnerships with these platforms.

2. Social media outlets will also ramp up efforts to engage young adults. The hashtag #HealthyAdulting on Facebook, Snapchat and Tumblr will include information about medical issues important to young adults. This effort is expected to reach around 5 million followers, according to an HHS report.

3. The Department of Defense is also jumping into the efforts and will include information about the ACA exchanges in a guide given to people transitioning out of military service.

4. The Internal Revenue Service is planning to connect with uninsured people — those who paid a penalty last year for not having insurance or claimed exemption — as many of them are young adults.

5. A Twitter campaign to encourage young adults to sign up.
