Jefferson Health acquires majority ownership in Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital: 5 things to know

Practice Management

Jefferson Health in Philadelphia purchased majority ownership in Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital in Bensalem, Pa., for an undisclosed sum, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Here are five things to know:

1. The Rothman Institute physicians were previously the majority owner of the hospital, which is focused on orthopedic procedures. The Rothman Institute physicians have a longstanding history of providing orthopedic care at Jefferson Health.

2. The hospital opened in 2010 and has 24 beds as well as six operating rooms.

3. The acquisition will allow Jefferson Health to improve orthopedic services, according to the report. Thomas Jefferson University President and CEO Stephen K. Klasko recognized Rothman Institute as a valuable partner in transforming care for better quality and lower cost.

4. This isn’t Jefferson Health’s first transaction this month; the health system merged with Aria Health earlier in the month. Aria Health includes three hospitals.

5. Jefferson health previously had minority ownership in Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital and now has controlling ownership. Other partners in the hospital include Rothman Specialty Hospital Investment, Nueterra and Holy Redeemer Health System.
