The American Institute of Architects awarded Cincinnati-based The Christ Hospital Joint and Spine Center the AIA National Healthcare Design Award.

Here are six highlights:

 

1. The award reflects an institution's exemplary healthcare design and healthcare design-oriented research. Institutions present projects highlighting these design aspects.

 

2. The AIA seeks designs that "solve aesthetic, civic, urban and social concerns as well as the requisite functional and sustainability concerns of a hospital."

4. The hospital's Joint and Spine Center offers rooms flooded with sunlight as well as quiet rooms for patients and employees.

 

5. Additionally, the building is LEED certified and offers a flexible design.
