Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, both in Boston, researchers found female physicians made nearly $20,000 less, on average, than male physicians, according to CBS Boston.
The largest study of its kind, investigators analyzed physician pay at 24 public medical schools.
Here are four insights:
1. The study found female physicians made $227,783 annually, 8 percent less than male physicians ($247,661).
2. Researchers noted the widest pay gaps were in the fields of orthopedic surgery, gynecology and cardiology.
3. The salary disparity was equal in family emergency medicine.
4. The study found female radiologists made marginally more than male radiologists.
