Coastal Orthopedics now includes lumbar epidural steroid injections: 5 key notes

Practice Management

Coastal Orthopedics now includes two physicians who are trained in lumbar epidural steroid injections.

Here are five key notes:

1. The two physicians performing lumbar epidural steroid injections are Erkan Alci, MD, and Erin Watson, MD.

2. The lumbar epidural steroid injection treats spine and spine-related lower extremity pain. The procedure can be performed in the office as an outpatient procedure.

3. The steroid is injected to reduce inflammation around the pinched or inflamed nerve. The procedure can relieve or eliminate pain without surgery.

4. Coastal Orthopedics is one of the longest-established orthopedic practices in the area and includes physicians who are focused on the spine, shoulder, elbow, knee, hand and wrist, foot and ankle and other orthopedic care.

5. Dr. Alci joined Coastal Orthopedics in 2014 and completed his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Watson is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician who joined the practice in 2007 after a residency at University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina in Greenville.

"Lumbar epidural steroid injections are a noninvasive method to relieve spine pain and restore function for patients," said Dr. Alci. "I believe it is important to continue to add to my skills and knowledge in the medical field, and I am proud to offer this treatment to my patients."
