8 top reasons for physician practice staff cuts in 2016

Declining reimbursements is the main reason a majority of physician practices are planning to make staff cuts in the coming year, according to Medscape's Staff Salary Report 2015.

Here are the eight reasons for physician practice staff cuts:

 

•    Declining reimbursements from all payers — 42 percent
•    Declining reimbursements from commercial payers — 39 percent
•    Declining reimbursements from government payers — 36 percent
•    Hiring part-time or remote employees for other support services — 23 percent  
•    Offset investments in IT — 18 percent
•    Outsourcing of other support services — 17 percent  
•    Transition to ICD-10 — 12 percent
•    Participation in an ACO — 9 percent

 

Note: The survey polled 1,051 physicians across 25 specialties.
