A new study found listening to music before, during or after surgery lowered patients' anxiety and pain, according to Newsmax.
Here are five points:
1. Researchers reviewed data from 72 studies that included almost 7,000 patients.
2. The study found listening to music before, during or after surgery also reduced patients' need for pain medications and increased their satisfaction with their care.
3. Patients who selected their music had slightly higher reductions in pain and painkillers.
4. The studies revealed listening to music while under general anesthesia slightly reduced patients' levels of pain after surgery as opposed to a large reduction went patients were conscious during surgery.
5. Music may not be a successful option for all patients as some patients may prefer quiet or other types of distractions.
