The possibility of changing healthcare: 5 notes on the cloud

Practice Management

The adoption of the cloud by medical professionals could change the healthcare landscape, according to Forbes.

Here are five things to know:

1. The cloud would facilitate fast, secure and efficient data exchange.

2. If physicians are able to share and update information readily, they can diagnose patients' conditions with greater confidence in addition to avoiding redundant tests.

3. The securely stored medical data will help healthcare providers to identify trends in population heath, costs and insurance reimbursements.

4. Many health IT companies do not opt to adopt the cloud because there is no financial incentive to change software. Millions of dollars are required to install software systems.

5. The government has outdated regulations prohibiting many medical professionals from switching to the cloud. It is illegal for any healthcare entity to get compensated for securely sending patient information where it needs to go.
