Is San Antonio the next hotbed for orthopedic, spine stem cells?

Practice Management

Stem cell therapy is booming in Texas, according to a San Antonio Express-News report.

The San Antonio Orthopaedic Group is offering a stem cell treatment for orthopedic injuries in an outpatient surgical center. The procedure uses the patient's stem cells derived from bone marrow to rebuild cartilage, collagen, tendon and bone, according to the report. Orthopedic surgeon Frank J. Garcia, MD, performs the procedures.

The Stem Cell Orthopedic Institute of Texas, a division of the South Texas Spinal Clinic, is performing outpatient procedures with stem cells. The physicians include Ajeya Joshi, MD, David Hirsch, MD, and John Hall, MD. Although they've been performing the procedures for more than a year, the institute opened this month.
