The argument for why physicians should also be entrepreneurs

Practice Management

Larry Myler, adjunct professor in the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, suggests in Forbes that every doctor should have a mind and the skills for business, especially when it is harder than ever to be financially successful in healthcare.

As Mr. Myler reports, Mark J Cacciamani, MD, founder of House Call Doctors, has made business education available to his staff and Kevin Williams, founder and managing director of Claim Resolutions, has continuously found he needs outside help in managing practices.

"With shrinking reimbursements, expanding regulations and increasingly complex coding and billing procedures, the non-business-savvy medical practice stands a much smaller chance of success than just a few years ago," said Mr. Myler in Forbes. "And it's only going to get worse. Perhaps we'll be seeing 'John Doe, MD, MBA' on more doctors' coats soon."
