Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush opens immediate orthopedic care clinic

Practice Management

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush opened an immediate orthopedic care clinic in Westchester, Ill., to treat accidental- and sports-related orthopedic injuries.

The OrthoCare Now clinic is open during the day and after hours as an alternative to the emergency room for patients with orthopedic injuries. The clinic is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.

The clinic includes board-certified orthopedic physicians who are also the team doctors for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls. They treat many conditions, including:

• Sprains
• Strains
• Muscle pulls
• Compound fractures
• Concussion
• Knee ligament injuries

"The patients who come here are diagnosed and treated more quickly than if they'd gone to the emergency room," says Mary Rodts, COO of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. "They are also able to see an orthopedic specialist, which isn't always available in the ER."

The hours are extended past regular work and school hours, which make it ideal for treating sports injuries. The clinic started as a facility to treat sports-related injuries, but then grew to include all types of musculoskeletal issues.

It is recommended that patients call ahead of time so that the staff can let them know when to arrive — usually within an hour or two of calling — to minimize wait time. They also discuss payment options and will take most type of insurance.

The clinic also includes X-rays, MRI, casting and durable medical equipment services for patients.

"The mission of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush is to provide world-class care. We want to take care of the patient at the right time and we believe we can provide good care rapidly," says Ms. Rodts. "It's necessary to have the right team in place, which we do. You want the physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and ancillary services ready at the clinic to provide the best orthopedic services possible."
