Here are 15 statistics on orthopedic patient visits from the Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report 2014.

Hours spent seeing patients per week:

 

•    30 to 40 hours: 27 percent
•    41 to 45 hours: 15 percent
•    46 to 50 hours: 17 percent
•    51 to 55 hours: 10 percent
•    56 to 60 hours: 12 percent

 

Number of patient visits per week

 

•    25 to 49 patient visits: 9 percent
•    50 to 75 patient visits: 24 percent
•    76 to 99 patient visits: 23 percent
•    100 to 124 patient visits: 22 percent
•    125 to 149 patient visits: 10 percent

 

Time spent with each patient:

 

•    Less than nine minutes: 11 percent
•    Nine to 12 minutes: 38 percent
•    13 to 16 minutes: 29 percent

 

Discussion on costs:

 

•    24 percent of orthopedics surgeons regularly discuss costs with patients while 59 percent sometimes do, if the patient brings up the subject.
•    8 percent never discuss the cost of treatment because they don't know the cost, while another 5 percent never discuss costs because they think it's inappropriate.
