Around 20 percent of medical practices use medical scribes to enter physician notes into an electronic health record system, according to Physician Practices' 2014 Technology Survey, sponsored by Kareo.

The survey includes a total of 1,442 respondents.


 
Here are five statistics on EHR use and type in physician practices, according to the survey:

 

•    Say their EHR has proper security measures to secure protected health information — 91.4 percent
•    Use medical scribes to enter physician notes — 20.9 percent
•    Are members of a health information exchange — 18.3 percent
•    Have a mobile-accessible EHR system — 74.8 percent
•    Use a cloud-based EHR, paying a regular fee — 38.5 percent
