Physicians may purchase an electronic health record and find they are not pleased with the decision. Here are three reasons this may happen and four steps to take when addressing the problem, according to a Medscape report.  

Reasons for physician dissatisfaction
•    Physicians may have purchased the wrong product
•    Physicians may not have been fully engaged in selection process
•    Physicians may not be using the product effectively

 

Steps to take
•    Determine the root cause of dissatisfaction
•    Reexamine how the EHR plays into the practice's workflow
•    Assign employees to become experts in the various aspects of the EHR
•    Consider a system redesign or switch if the product truly isn't a fit for the practice
