Orthopedic surgeon Charles Murphy, MD, plans to renovate the former Beth Israel synagogue in New Orleans into his new orthopedic practice for sports medicine, physical therapy and rehabilitation, according to The Times-Picayune. The congregation vacated the synagogue after Hurricane Katrina, and Dr. Murphy worked with the city council to have the building rezoned for commercial use.
He purchased the facility for $711,000 and will be expanding his practice after renovations.
