3 hospitals acquiring orthopedic practices in 2023

Practice Management

Here are three hospitals buying stake in orthopedics centers in 2023:

1. St. Joseph’s Health is paying about $25 million for stake in an ASC owned by Syracuse (N.Y.) Orthopedic Specialists. The transaction gives the Syracuse, N.Y.-based hospital a 25 percent share in Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists' One Day Surgery Center. The other 75 percent will be owned by 35 physicians who work out of the practice.

2. Salem (Ore.) Health absorbed Salem-based Hope Orthopedics in September and hired most of its physicians and employees. Hope Orthopedics' clinic sites in Salem, Keizer and Dallas, Ore. will remain open, but they will be rebranded as "Salem Health."

3. Charleston (W.Va.) Area Medical Center plans to buy a majority share of Charleston Surgical Hospital and plans to buy OrthoNeuro in Charleston.
