Medical malpractice lawsuits are every physician's nightmare. Here are three statistics on physicians and medical malpractice, according to Physicians Practice's 2014 Great American Physician Survey:
• A little over 56 percent of physicians admitted to ordering procedures or tests that they thought were probably not medically necessary just to avoid a potential lawsuit, whereas 43.1 percent of physicians denied doing this.
• Around 70 percent of physicians have never been the defendant in a medical malpractice lawsuit as compared to 29.8 percent who have.
• Almost 60 percent of physicians have been threatened with a medical malpractice lawsuit.
The survey includes responses from 1,311 physicians.
