Lourdes Medical Center Now Performing Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

Practice Management

Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, N.J., is now performing reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, according to Melodika.net. The first reverse total shoulder replacement was performed by orthopedic surgeon and the Lourdes' Director of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Sean McMillan, DO.

Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty is ideal for patients with rotator cuff tear arthropathy or for patients where a previous shoulder replacement failed.

Such procedure takes about two hours to perform with a one to two day hospital stay, followed by three weeks in a shoulder immobilizer. Most patients require an additional six to 12 weeks of physical therapy.
