Social media tools, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, are becoming increasingly important for managing businesses, including orthopedic practices. According to a new Medscape report, Facebook is the most popular social media website for orthopedists. Here are 10 statistics on how orthopedists use social media based on medium and age.
Facebook:

•    58 percent of orthopedists age 31-40 use Facebook
•    Nearly 50 percent of orthopedists age 41-50 use Facebook
•    48 percent of orthopedists age 51-60 use Facebook
•    More than 30 percent of orthopedists age 60-70 use Facebook

Twitter:

•    Less than 20 percent of orthopedists under age 50 use Twitter
•    Around 5 percent of orthopedists age 51-60 use Twitter
•    11 percent of orthopedic surgeons age 60-70 use Twitter

LinkedIn:

•    28 percent of orthopedists age 31-40 use LinkedIn
•    Almost 20 percent of orthopedists age 41-50 use LinkedIn
•    23 percent of orthopedists age 51-60 use LinkedIn
•    15 percent of orthopedists age 61-70 use LinkedIn

Non-users:

•    58 percent of orthopedists 61-70 report not using any social media
•    40 percent of orthopedists age 51-60 report not using any social media
•    More than 35 percent of orthopedists age 41-50 report not using any social media
•    21 percent of orthopedists age 31-40 report not using any social media
