5 Elements to Include in an ICD-10 Contingency Plan

Billing & Coding

Healthcare providers should have a contingency checklist in place before the transition to ICD-10 occurs in October next year, according to an EHR Intelligence report.

The checklist can also help providers identify the risks involved in the transition. The checklist includes:

1. Communication with business partners, especially, electronic health record and practice management software vendors.
2. A thorough clinical documentation improvement program.
3. Comprehensive employee retention programs.
4. Dual coding and testing.
5. Funds to carry the practice/facility through lean times.
