Ascension Orthopedics, an Austin, Texas-based manufacturer of orthopedic implants, has received a European patent for the PyroCarbon humeral head design developed as a component of the TITAN modular shoulder system, according to a company news release.
The device is designed to extend the functional life of shoulder hemi-arthroplasty because PyroCarbon causes less damage to cartilage and bone joint tissue than the metal alloy used during traditional shoulder joint hemi-arthroplasty.
