Relievant Medsystems appoints Kevin Hykes CEO: 4 takeaways

Relievant Medsystems, a developer of minimally invasive systems for treating chronic low back pain, elected Kevin Hykes CEO and a member of the board of directors, effective immediately.

Here are four takeaways:

 

1. Mr. Hykes replaces Alex DiNello who has been the company's CEO since 2011. Mr. DiNello will remain in the company as chief operating officer.

 

2. Previously, Mr. Hykes served as chairman and CEO of Metavention, a clinical stage medical device company developing interventional therapies for Type 2 diabetes. Mr. Hykes remains chairman of the board of directors at Medavention.

 

3. Mr. Hykes served as president and CEO of Cameron Health, developer of the first subcutaneous implantable defibrillator prior to taking on his current role. He also spent 16 years at Medtronic holding leadership positions in the cardiac rhythm management, neurological, health valve and cardiac surgery

businesses.

 

5. Currently, Relievant Medsystems is commercializing the Intracept System, designed to deliver targeted energy into the spine and block transmission of pain signals from the basivertebral nerve.
