Michigan invests $1M in Stryker to convince company to expand in state — 4 things to know

The state of Michigan is offering a $1 million economic development support package to Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Stryker, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Here's what you should know.

 

1. Stryker is planning a $130 million expansion outside of Kalamazoo which would create 105 new jobs over three years.

 

2. State officials unanimously approved a $1 million Michigan Business Development Program Performance-based Grant Incentive package to convince Stryker officials to expand in state. The Michigan Economic Development Corp. expects Stryker to return in the coming months to seek more state aid, according to the report.

 

3. The expansion will create a new 485,000-square-foot facility and corporate campus.

 

4. The company has received several forms of economic relief from the state, county and city governments in the past.
