Medtronic continues to pave way in MIS arena with 2 OLIF systems: 6 takeaways

Spinal Tech

Medtronic expanded its oblique lateral interbody fusion platform with its new Pivox Oblique Lateral Spinal System with Lateral Plate for OLIF25 and Divergence-L Anterior/Oblique Lumbar Fusion System for OLIF51.

Medtronic launched the systems during the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques in Washington, D.C.

Here are six takeaways:

1. During the OLIF25 procedure, surgeons can treat L2-L5 spine levels while preserving the patient's psoas muscle. Additionally, the procedure provides surgeons easier access around the patient's iliac crest, allowing them to readily place an implant into the disc place.

2. OLIF51 procedure offers surgeons lateral access to the L5-S1 disc space without forcing the surgeon to reposition the patient if the surgeon needs to conduct various levels of surgery.

3. Medtronic devised the Pivox Oblique Lateral Spinal System with Lateral Plate specifically for the OLIF25 procedure, and surgeons can use the plate at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1 without requiring additional posterior fixation.

5.  The Pivox Oblique Lateral Spinal System's cage is intended to provide patients with degenerative scoliosis anterior column support. Additionally, the system's plates and screws are intended for use in degenerative disc disease patients.

5. Medtronic's Divergence-L Anterior/Oblique Lumbar Fusion System is a plate/interbody all-in-one system for the OLIF51 procedure and the ALIF procedure. Medtronic designed the system for the oblique or anterior approach, and it features several height and lordosis options.

6. Required for use with the autogenous bone graft, the system's interbody cage is intended for patients with degenerative disc disease at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1.
