Dr. Carlos Botella performs 1st ROSA Spine surgery in Spain: 5 key notes

Spinal Tech

The first spine surgery using MEDTECH’s ROSA Spine surgical assistance robot in Spain is now complete.

Here are five key notes on the procedure:

1. Dr. Carlos Botella performed the procedure at La Fe Hospital of Valencia in Spain. The hospital is recognized among the leading European facilities for brain and spine pathologies.

2. Dr. Botella performed the surgery on a 47-year-old patient with degenerative disc disease.

3. The surgery was a minimally invasive intervention and Dr. Botella was able to adjust for the patient’s body movements using the ROSA technology. “As a result, we have increased confidence that the instrument and implant positioning is aligned with the planned trajectory, facilitating a highly accurate outcome,” said Dr. Botella.

4. The first procedures in the United States using the robotic technology were performed recently at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Juan Torres-Reveron, MD, performed the procedure there.

5. Surgeons have been using the ROSA Spine technology in France for a while now, and Dr. Michael Lefranc performed the 100th procedure with the technology earlier this month.
