Spinal Tech

GE Healthcare signed its first U.S. managed equipment services agreement, according to Med Device Online.

Here are six takeaways:

1. GE Healthcare will exclusively supply advanced imaging equipment to Heritage Valley Health System for 14 years.

2. HVHS includes locations in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and the West Virginia panhandle.

3. The 19-facility health system serves about 167,000 patients.

4. Under the agreement, HVHS will be able to update equipment without the stress of fluctuating capital expenditures.

5. Within a managed equipment service strategy, medtech companies share some of the risk but can launch new devices and strengthen their reputations.

6. Medtronic, St. Jude, J&J and Phillips have also entered these agreements with hospital systems.
