The FDA has cleared Exatech's Vantage Total Ankle device.

Here are five highlights:

2. It is the latest product in Exatech's extremities line, and it's first in the company's foot and ankle portfolio.

3. The Vantage Total Ankle allows for both stability and mobility in total ankle arthroplasty. The system incorporates the press-fit bone cage design used in the Equinoxe shoulder system, developed to allow for initial and long-term fixation.

4. Exatech plans to initiate targeted clinical evaluation of the Vantage Total Ankle this summer, with full-scale release scheduled for the first quarter of 2017.

5. Based in Gainesville, Fla., Exatech develops and markets orthopedic implant devices, related surgical instruments and biologic materials and services to hospitals and physicians.
