Ammolite BioModels creates bone models for spine surgeon training: 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based Ammolite BioModels developed bone models that resemble actual bones, according to Metro News.

Here are five things to know:

1. The bone models are designed to help spine surgeons train outside the operating room.

2. Since the models feel like real bone, spine surgeons will gain expertise on what it feels like to be inside and outside the bone.

3. The researchers hope their bone models will decrease costs and risks, as surgeons will be better trained when they enter the operating room.

4. Ammolite BioModels won $10,000 in the TENET Innovation to Commercialization Competition for the bone models.

5. The company plans to use the prize money to manufacture the bone models.
