New Bay Area device uses a precise knee replacement for surfer — 4 things to know

Michael Evans, a former surfer facing his second knee replacement surgery, will be undergoing a more precise treatment, according to ABC News 7.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Verasense is a device that helps ensure a better fit for knee replacements.

 

2. Robert Mayle, MD, performed the surgery at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

 

3. The procedure involved inserting the Verasense device to gauge the balance and fit of the replacement cap, then placing synthetic caps on the upper and lower surfaces of Evans' knee joint.

 

4. Verasense is a device designed to work with most of the commonly-used knee replacement devices currently on the market.
