St. Jude Medical's recharge-free SCS system earns FDA approval: 5 notes

Spinal Tech

St. Jude Medical's Proclaim Elite Spinal Cord Stimulation System received FDA approval. The device is the first recharge-free SCS system in the United States.

Here are five notes:

1. The conditional magnetic resonance labeling for the system has also been approved, which provides for safe head and extremely MRI scans.

2. Patients can receive future SCS technology updates without replacing the device. The Bluetooth wireless and Apple mobile device technology allows patients convenient interaction with their devices and care.

3. St. Jude Medical also developed a clinical programmer, which allows providers to adjust patients' SCS therapy via an Apple iPad mini.

4. Patients can also monitor SCS with the company's Invisible Trial System, a neuromodulation programming system via Apple iPad touch.

5. "The new St. Jude Medical Proclaim Elite system bridges the gap between today's state-of-the-art therapies and tomorrow's groundbreaking innovations for chronic pain," said Allen Burton, MD, medical director of neuromodulation, St. Jude Medical in Saint Paul, Minn.
