Spinal Tech

Medtronic's TYRX Neuro Absorbable Antibacterial Envelope has been successfully implanted with the company's Deep Brain Stimulation systems in the United States.

Here are five key points:

1. Francisco Ponce, MD, of Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, implanted the first TYRX Neuro envelopes.

2. A surgical mesh envelope, the TYRX Neuro locks an implantable neurostimulator or cardiac implantable electronic device in place.

3. Once implanted, it releases minocycline and rifampin over seven days to prevent surgical site infections.

4. Nine weeks after the implantation operation, the body completely absorbs the TRYX Neuro.

5. The FDA has cleared TRYX Neuro's use with CIEDs and INS systems.

"The TYRX Neuro Absorbable Antibacterial Envelope is a much needed and long awaited solution to the risk of infection related to implanted neurostimulator," said Dr. Ponce. "It is going to be the standard of care in my practice."
