Exactech announced that the first surgery using its new Equinoxe Humeral Reconstruction Prosthesis has been successfully completed.

Here are five observations:

1. Thomas Wright, MD, of University of Florida in Gainesville, performed the first case using the new shoulder system. He was a member of the device design team.

2. The humeral reconstruction prosthesis is designed to offer flexibility for complex cases with significant proximal humeral bone loss.

3. It is intended for primary or revision arthroplasty procedures and anatomic oncology procedures.

4. The system will see full market availability in the United States in 2016.

5. The system is among three new Exactech revision systems making their clinical debut. Exactech has announced the first surgeries with its new revision knee and hip systems over the last week.
