Medtronic CEO joins Minnesota Public Radio board of trustees: 5 key notes

Medtronic CEO and Chairman Omar Ishrak was elected to the Minnesota Public Radio board of trustees, according to an All Access report.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. Medtronic headquarters were previously based in Minnesota for many years, but moved to Ireland earlier this year after acquiring Ireland-based Covidien. The company moved headquarters in a tax inversion strategy.

 

2. The company has recently been taking on other community projects as well, including purchasing rights to a plaza near U.S. Bank Stadium where the Minnesota Vikings play home games. The company plans to "vastly improve pregame experience" for fans.

 

3. Mr. Ishrak has been the chairman and CEO of Medtronic since June 2011 and led the company to rake in more than $27 billion in annual revenue. He has focused on therapy innovation, economic value and globalization during his tenure.

 

4. Mr. Ishrak has experience as president and CEO of General Electric Health Systems, a $12 billion division of GE Healthcare. He also spent time leading the business management and development positions.

 

5. He is a member of the board of trustees for the Asia Society, having grown up in Bangladesh, and dedicates time to strengthening partnerships among people, leaders and institutions of the United States and Asia.
