Do patients care about spinal implant material? Yes — And here's what they prefer

Spinal Tech

Spine-health conducted a survey asking patients their preference in implant material — and the results were unexpected.

Here are three things to know from the report:

1. Just more than 60 percent of the patients preferred titanium implants, which is surprising because the majority of fusion implants are currently make with PEEK.

2. Nearly 90 percent of patients said they had a preference regarding implant material, which goes beyond just choosing the surgeon.

3. The second most-preferred implant material was cadaver bone, followed by plastic. The smallest percentage of people had no preference.

There were more than 500 respondents to the survey.
