Spinal Tech

Biometrics will see a great growth opportunity in the healthcare industry, according to a report by Tractica.

Here are five things to know:

1. Biometrics can help make administrative tasks faster, reduce fraud and eliminate mistakes dealing with high workloads.

2. Global healthcare spending is around 10 percent of global gross domestic product.

3. Biometrics companies will need to cater to healthcare needs, marketing themselves as integrated businesses and technology solutions in which biometrics are essential.

4. Tractica predicts that home/remote patient access, care provider authentication, patient identification and tracking and pharmacy dispensing will increase biometric hardware and software demand.

5. The report, "Biometrics in the Healthcare industry," looks at 10-year forecasts for 2015 to 2024, including revenue, device shipments and software licensing volumes.

"The outlook is strong for healthcare biometrics, however it remains a nascent market," said Bob Lockhart, principal analyst. "Success stories are scarce; even large healthcare networks are barely dipping their toes into the water, with early proofs of concept."
