FDA clears Zyga's SImmetry System for new technique

Spinal Tech

Zyga received FDA clearance for the SImmetry System for either two-incision or single-incision techniques.

"In the operating room, surgeons need as many options as possible to effectively treat each individual," said David Greenwald, MD, of Flagler Brain and Spine Institute in St. Augustine. "The new SImmetry technique allows me to offer patients a single, one-inch incision and adopt the surgery to their individual anatomy and condition."

Here are three key notes:

1. The CDC has low back pain listed as the second most common cause of disability in the United States.

2. Around 20 percent of all chronic low back pain derives from the sacroiliac joint.

3. CMS assigned a Category I CPT code to minimally invasive SI joint fusion.
