Jim Sevey to lead Titan Spine's nanoLOCK commercialization in Q4: 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

Titan Spine, a medical device surface technology company, appointed Jim Sevey senior nanotechnology specialist. He will lead the commercialization of the nanoLOCK surface, the only FDA-cleared nanotechnology for spinal implant technologies.

1. Equipped with more nano-scaled textures, the nanoLOCK up-regulates more osteogenic and angiogenic growth factors that provide for bone growth and fusion.

2. The nanoLOCK surface is part of Titan Spine's Endoskeleton line of interbody fusion implants.

3. Mr. Sevey will spearhead the education about and demonstration of the nanoLOCK surface, as well as relay the scientific evidence behind the technology.

4. Titan Spine President, Kevin Gemas, said the first of Mr. Sevey's jobs will be to differentiate the nanoLOCK surface from other companies that have nanotechnology, yet to be FDA-cleared.

5. Mr. Sevey previously held the position of manager and biomaterials technical specialist at Synthes/DePuy Biomaterials. His role involved clinical and technical consulting and education surgeons and residents among other responsibilities.

"The spine industry is beginning to recognize 'nanotechnology' as more than a marketing concept and now as a design approach," said Barbara Boyan, PhD, Dean of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University and author of studies supporting Titan Spine. "Titan Spine has been at the forefront of this charge for nearly a decade..."
