Smith & Nephew to acquire Zimmer's partial knee system in the U.S. — 4 key notes

Smith & Nephew plans to acquire Zimmer's unicondylar knee system in the United States market.

"Our acquisition of this product line expands our access to a fast-growing segment of the joint reconstruction market," said President of Global Orthopaedic Franchises at Smith & Nephew Brad Cannon.

 

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The transaction is expected to close within three days after the merger between Zimmer and Biomet closes. The Zimmer/Biomet merger completed today.

 

2. The Zimmer Unicondylar Knee system was introduced globally in 2004 and is proven in the literature.

 

3. Smith & Nephew purchased all existing inventory and certain intellectual property for the U.S. market on Zimmer's Unicondylar Knee system.

 

4. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
