Ceterix Orthopaedics' NovoStitch: 2 studies support it

Spinal Tech

Ceterix Orthopaedics published positive findings for two biomechanical studies for the proprietary NovoStitch suture passer for the meniscus repair.

The articles are published in Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery. The two studies were conducted at the Center for Advanced Orthopaedic Studies in Boston and show suture patterns arthroscopically delivered with the NovoStitch device meet or exceed the strength of those delivered via the gold standard open-surgical approach for two common types of meniscal tears.

"Understanding the best sewing techniques is imperative to optimizing treatments for patients with these extremely common injuries," said Justin Saliman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and chief medical officer of Ceterix Orthopaedics.

The first study compares gap formation, strength and stiffness of repaired radial tears of the meniscus treated using the NovoStitch suture passer as compared to a traditional inside-out suture technique. The researchers found procedures using NovoStitch had:

• Lower displacement
• Higher load to failure
• Greater stiffness

The second study examined three meniscus repair techniques, including the NovoStitch suture passer. The researchers found the NovoStitch suture passer was as good or better than the gold standard technique.
