Blue Belt reaches 1k surgeries with Navio Robotic Surgical System — 5 key notes

Spinal Tech

There have now been more than 1,000 partial knee replacements performed using the Navio Robotic Surgical System from Blue Belt Technologies.

Here are five key notes on the 1,000th procedure:

1. Michael Higgins, MD, performed the milestone surgery at Sentera CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Va.

2. The system uses computer navigation and handheld robotic-assisted technology for precise bone preparation ahead of unicondylar and patellofemoral knee replacement surgery.

3. The Navio system has had FDA clearance since December 2012 and the company began full commercialization in March 2013. Last year the company sold 33 Navio systems.

4. Blue Belt has partnered with two major implant companies and achieved FDA clearance for a patellofemoral joint replacement application.

5. The 1,000th procedure was achieved just six months after the company reported its 500th case.
