Zimmer, Biomet, Zyga Technology & more — 5 key notes

Spinal Tech

Here are five key notes on spine and orthopedic device companies.

MicroPort Orthopedics announced that Jimmy Chow, MD, has performed more than 1,000 total hip arthroplasty surgeries using the SuperPath Hip technique.

Zimmer announced plans earlier this year to quietly acquire Biomet, however, previous issues — such as the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission's probe into bribe allegations against Biomet — could derail the transaction, at least for a time.

The Food and Drug Administration published draft guidance for the minimal manipulation of human cells tissues and cellular and tissue-based products, and now device companies are making comments, including MiMedx executives.

Zimmer appointed Michael J. Farrell to its board of directors.

Zyga Technology raised $2 million in an equity-and-options round, hoping to eventually bring in $5 million.
