More evidence supporting robotic spine surgery unveiled

Spinal Tech

A new study presented during the North American Spine Society annual meeting showed the efficacy of the Renaissance robotic spine surgery system.

Faissal Zahrawi, MD, of Florida Hospital Celebration Health; Samuel Bederman, MD, of University of California, Irvine Medical Center; and Bert Hoess of Medical Spectrum Twente Hospital in the Netherlands gave podium presentations on the robotic system.

The clinical data showed the robotic system improved accuracy in minimally invasive, percutaneous and complex revision procedures when compared with the freehand technique. There was one study showing a 50 percent reduction in fluoroscopy use with the robotic system.

"With the paradigm shift in the healthcare industry, hospitals and surgeons need technology that is scientifically validated to improve outcomes," said Mazor Robotics CEO Ori Hadomi. "It is very exciting to see continual growth in the amount of clinical evidence supporting the Renaissance technology in spine surgery.
