From beer to bearings: Coors establishes orthopedic implant company

Spinal Tech

The latest company to enter the orthopedic implant manufacturing industry has a familiar name, but not one you associate with the device industry — CoorsTek Medical, a part of the Coors business portfolio launched as a company earlier this month, according to a Denver Business Journal report.

CoorsTek Medical is a result of the integration of IMDS, a Fort Worth, Texas-based medical device company purchased by Coors in 2013, and C5 Medical Werks of Grand Junction (Colo.), already owned by the Coors family. The new company will focus on designing and developing orthopedic implants and instruments.

The company is privately held and includes more than 400 employees. It has started making medical devices for some big industry players in the United States, including Johnson & Johnson, Stryker and Zimmer, said Jonathan Coors, CEO of CoorsTek Medical to Denver Business Journal.
