Orthopedic device maker Stryker has planned to layoff 5 percent of its global workforce by the end of 2012, and efforts are on track for completion, according to Michigan Live. The 5 percent reduction was announced in November of 2011 and would include 1,000 employees. Stryker, which is based in Kalamazoo, Mich., said the reduction would provide efficiencies and help "realign resources" before the 2.3 percent medical device tax goes into effect.
