Medtronic has joined a number of corporate entities at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting making a commitment to provide for Syrian refugees, according to a Triple Pundit report.
Syria has been in conflict for four years and many refugees now reside in Jordan. The country is searching for ways to care for the 1.3 million Syrians — 630,000 of them refugees — living within their borders.
Medtronic announced Operation Blue Falcon to improve healthcare access in Jordan during the CGI meeting. The company committed to "enhance the cardiology and neuro/spine surgery services in Jordan," according to the report. Medtronic plans to provide staff, medical equipment and medical fellowships to support the country.
Additionally, Medtronic will renovate the emergency room triage area at Jordan's Al Bashir Hospital.
International Medical Corps also committed to providing public health services to meet the needs of refugees.
