A systematic literature review published in Arthroscopy found that horizontal meniscus tear repairs can be successful.
The literature review examined more than 16,000 articles and found nine studies with data which could be evaluated that reported results of horizontal cleavage tear repairs. A total of 98 horizontal tear repairs were reported.
Using reoperation as the criterion for treatment failure, the study found that 77 repairs were successful, resulting in an overall success rate of 77.8 percent.
