Here are seven key notes on major spine and orthopedic device companies.

Biomet released preliminary financial results for the fourth quarter and full 2014 fiscal year, announcing that the United States net sales increased 6.9 percent during the fourth quarter to $498.5 million.

 

Covidien shareholders are suing the company and Medtronic to block the impending merger of the two companies.


 
Johnson & Johnson announced second quarter 2014 financial results, including orthopedic sales, which reached $2.4 million, a 3.5 percent increase over the same period last year.

 

Misonix announced a new study conducted by surgeons from Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego shows the Misonix BoneScalpel could reduce blood loss during adolescent idiopathic scoliosis correction surgery.

 

Smith & Nephew appointed new auditors, ending a 77 year relationship with previous auditors Ernst & Young.

 

Also, Smith & Nephew entered into a commercial agreement with Blue Belt Technologies to bring robotic orthopedic navigation to the Journey Uni Knee procedure.

 

St. Jude Medical acquired NeuroTherm for $200 million in a transaction announced Monday.
