NuVasive named Carol Cox executive vice president of strategy and corporate communications, reporting directly to chairman and CEO Alex Lukianov.

Ms. Cox will also join the company's executive committee. This is a newly-created role where Ms. Cox will be responsible for NuVasive's short- and long-term business strategies. She will also create and manage centralized communications to ensure global message alignment. The company's corporate philanthropic and cultural efforts will also fall under Ms. Cox's purview.

"I am pleased to join Alex and the team at NuVasive as we build upon and execute against the strategies that will support our continued growth in the minimally disruptive spine market, expand our global footprint and integrate our communications efforts to help drive substantial value for our customers, stockholders and internal employee shareowners," said Ms. Cox in a news release.

She previously served as senior vice president, external affairs at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. She has experience in executive positions at Life Technologies and CareFusion.

NuVasive's expansion will continue this week when the company opens a new international operations center in Ireland, which is expected to create 30 highly skilled positions over the next few years. The company currently employs 1,500 people and has a presence in the international market.
